Grace is a seven-year photographic collaboration between Scott Offen and his wife, Grace, developed within the context of a long-standing relationship. Moving between domestic interiors and the untamed landscape of New England, the work explores aging, identity, femininity and the possibility of inhabiting a world beyond the conventions of everyday life.
In these photographs, Grace is neither a passive subject nor a traditional muse. Together, Scott and Grace construct a mysterious, timeless universe in which the boundaries between reality and imagination dissolve. Through gestures, costumes and encounters with the natural world, Grace becomes a solitary and elusive figure, at once vulnerable and self-assured, familiar and otherworldly.
The images emerge from a slow, collaborative process shaped by careful planning, shared intuition and spontaneous discovery. As Grace recounts in her reflection on the making of the work, the experience also became an opportunity to rediscover playfulness, freedom and a different relationship with her own identity.
