Angela Cappetta’s We Are Gathered Here is a monograph of documentary wedding photography, bringing together more than a decade of candid photographs made before smartphones changed the way we experience and photograph gatherings.

Rather than focusing only on the ceremony itself, Cappetta turns her camera towards everything that surrounds it: anticipation, family dynamics, nervousness, intimacy, celebration, humour and the unpredictable moments in between. Brides getting ready, relatives waiting, children playing, guests dancing, couples kissing, and quiet moments of observation come together to form a vivid portrait of the wedding as a social gathering.

Shot on film with Cappetta’s direct and unvarnished approach, these photographs capture a time when people could gather without the constant presence of screens and cameras. The result is both an intimate record of weddings and a wider reflection on community, connection and the ways we come together.
